I am a BIPOC writer and would like to pitch an idea with co-writers who are not BIPOC, am I eligible to apply?

This opportunity is one specifically created for BIPOC content creators who will be the lead writer or showrunner of a series of their own creation and to which they own the IP. There have been several questions from BIPOC writers who are working with a co-writer who is not from an Indigenous, Black, or racialized community. This specific opportunity is open to lead BIPOC writers only. The lead writer/showrunner can include co-writers (BIPOC or not) in the team, however, a lead writer/showrunner who is BIPOC must be identified. If your project is selected, only the lead BIPOC writer/showrunner will be invited to take part in the opportunity.

I am an emerging writer, am I eligible to apply?

Yes, emerging writers are eligible to apply.

Can I apply if I am not a Canadian citizen or not a Permanent Resident?

No. This opportunity is only open to Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Do I need to have a team (producers, other writers, etc.) in place for the application?

No, you do not need to have a team in place. You can apply as an individual. The decision-makers want to hear from the lead BIPOC writer.

Can I apply as a company instead of as an individual?

Do I need to submit a writing sample?

Does my writing sample have to be in the same genre or tone as the project I’m submitting?

Can my writing sample be the pilot script for the series I’m pitching?

Am I required to submit the pilot episode of the series I want to pitch?
