Indigenous Screen Office
The Indigenous Screen Office (ISO) is an independent national advocacy and funding organization serving First Nations, Inuit and Métis creators of screen content in Canada. The ISO’s mandate is to foster and support narrative sovereignty and cultural revitalization by increasing Indigenous storytelling on screens and promoting Indigenous values and participation across the sector.

The ISO is an exciting and growing organization with an Indigenous team currently located in Ontario, Quebec, BC and Manitoba. ISO operates as a virtual office and applicants for this role can be based anywhere in Canada. Title and Responsibilities
The Vice-President, Industry, Partnerships and Growth is a strategic thinker focused on spearheading growth and driving new initiatives and improvements across the organization. Working in collaboration with the CEO and across departments, the incumbent works to accelerate the ISO’s expansion and maximize opportunities for partnerships, particularly within the screen and broadcasting industry. As a key senior leader, the VP represents the ISO at industry conferences and events and continues to build the ISO brand as an innovative and leading Indigenous organization in Canada.

Key Responsibilities
Industry, Partnerships and Growth

  • Working with the CEO, lead the implementation of ISO’s organizational and revenue growth goals as outlined in its new pending 3-year strategic plan;
  • Create new partnership and program opportunities for the ISO within the Canadian broadcasting sector;
  • Explore opportunities for fundraising and collaborations in Canada and the U.S;
  • Develop and expand ISO’s existing industry programs and strategic initiatives into a cohesive suite of programs;
  • Build strategies for fundraising and partnership programs, maintaining strong working relationships with internal ISO departmental staff and external partners;
  • Attend industry conference and events and stay on top of current industry and market trends;
  • Expand ISO’s industry contacts and build relationships with broadcasters, streamers, funders and distributors;
  • Drive forward innovative ideas for building the next generation of Indigenous screen talent and a robust Indigenous screen sector.

Program Strategy, Design and Success

  • Working with the CEO and Director of Funding, support the implementation of new funding strategies related to existing funding programs, new funds, industry initiatives, and talent development;
  • Engage in ongoing discussions with producers/storytellers and community consultation processes to ensure alignment with ISO goals and the needs of the Indigenous screen sector;
  • Ensure effective oversight over ISO industry programs and strategic initiatives, developing key metrics for evaluating success; ensure projects and programs are effectively structured, staffed and managed;
  • Implement or approve workback plans and schedules to ensure effective delivery of programs and initiatives;
  • Working with the Communications team, develop strategies to promote new industry programs, initiatives and opportunities;
  • Develop and build relationships with existing and new stakeholders and partners and the Indigenous screen sector; oversee community consultations for new major initiatives;
  • Foster an inclusive working environment and regular channels of communication with staff, partners, and the Indigenous community;
  • Manage agreements and contracting process for partnerships and consulting, working with Finance team and legal counsel as needed;
  • Develop and manage program and departmental budgets.

Public Engagement and Organizational Leadership

  • Attend screenings, events, festivals and related community activity with existing and prospective organizations, which may include travel across Canada and internationally, serving as a key voice and representative for the organization;
  • Participate in and represent ISO at special advisory committees and panels, as required;
  • Conduct media interviews, specifically in relation to new initiatives;
  • Determine employee and contractual support needed to achieve strategic objectives;
  • Interview, hire, train, and mentor staff as needed; assign work, and provide job performance reviews as required;
  • Conduct regular staff engagements and gain feedback to ensure cross-departmental alignment with growth strategies and identify areas for administrative improvements;
  • Play a leadership role in reporting on activities and achievement for ISO’s Annual Report;
  • Report on activities to the Board of Directors quarterly and at the annual AGM;
  • Serve as a thought leader on Indigenous advocacy and innovation in the screen industry and as a leader and mentor to the ISO team.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Academic degree in Arts, Film, Communications, Media, Business Administration, or another relevant field;
  • Progressive leadership experience in the Canadian broadcasting industry with specific experience in designing and development new programs and initiatives;
  • Seasoned public speaker with familiarity of ISO’s mandate and position as a leader in the screen sector;
  • Passionate advocate with credibility with Canada’s Indigenous community;
  • Demonstrated team leadership, administrative, and supervisory abilities;
  • Experience and comfort with all forms of social media and digital platforms – you are media savvy;
  • Experience in financial management and budgeting, strategic planning, implementation and operationalization;
  • Proven experience and success in fundraising and/or partnership development and contractual negotiations;
  • Knowledge of developing KPI’s and proven track record of achieving measurable objectives;
  • Experience managing a team.;
  • Strong communication skills, including written and oral as well as diplomacy and relationship-building skills;
  • Knowledge of federal broadcasting policy and legislation, as well as applicable Indigenous-specific legislation and rights;
  • Knowledge of films and televisions funding application and reporting policies and procedures, including Federal and Provincial agencies and programs;
  • Understanding of the Canadian broadcasting landscape including Unions, Guilds, and tax credit systems;
  • Outstanding reputation for building and growing inclusive relationships;
  • Thorough knowledge of the history and current state of a variety of Indigenous arts and culture in Canada and of the trends and new developments in the screen sector;
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of challenges facing Indigenous storytellers, companies and professionals in the sector;
  • Knowledge of national cultural policy;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and be self-motivated in a high pressure and demanding work environment;
  • High level of business administration skills;
  • Analytical, critical and strategic thinking skills;
  • Proven ability to exercise diplomacy and good judgment and to maintain the discretion and confidentiality required of leaders of funding organizations;
  • Exemplary attention to detail with excellent planning, organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to commit to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities;
  • Ability to take initiative to participate in a culture of learning, mentoring, and sharing;
  • Ability to contribute to building and being a part of a positive culture;
  • Proficiency in French or Indigenous language will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required.
